Definition: Invisible ultraviolet or infrared radiation. Black light causes fluorescent materials to emit visible light and is used to take pictures in the dark.

Blacklight photography can also be used for eerie portraiture effects. The subject can be painted with blacklight responsive bodypaints and photographed in a room lit solely by blacklight. One problem with this is that most film is also sensitive to UV energy, and the blacklight can result in a general blue fog on the image. This can be reduced somewhat through the use of UV filters on the lens.
